Sports data and intelligence APIs for AI agents, compared by type
There is no single best sports API for an agent, because the providers sell different things. This page sorts them by what they return, describes four well-known providers as they describe themselves, and shows where a research-intelligence layer fits beside a licensed data feed.

Short answer
Sports APIs for AI agents fall into three types: odds feeds that return prices, data suites that return scores, statistics and injuries, and intelligence layers that return derived analysis such as ranked news, briefs and scores. A serious agent usually combines a licensed data feed for facts and prices with an intelligence layer for context and ranking. DeepChamp for Agents is an intelligence layer; it returns no odds and does not replace a data feed.
Three types of sports API
| Type | What it returns | What your agent still has to build | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odds feed | Prices and lines from sportsbooks, sometimes with history, scores and props. | Ranking, news context, reasoning, and the licence to display the prices. | Price comparison, line-movement tracking, closing line measurement. |
| Data suite | Scores, schedules, statistics, injuries, lineups and sometimes odds and projections. | Interpretation: which fact matters for which game and why. | Box-score analysis, schedule context, models you train yourself. |
| Research-intelligence layer | Derived analysis: ranked and deduplicated news, matchup and prop briefs, probability estimates, edge scores, a question-answering agent. | Prices (it returns none), your own measurement, and your own decisions. | Research assistants, newsletters, dashboards, second opinions on your own models. |
Four providers, as they describe themselves
Descriptions below are taken from each provider’s own site and documentation on October 30, 2026. They are not rankings, they omit prices because prices change, and you should confirm every detail with the provider. DeepChamp has no relationship with any of them.
| Provider | Type | What its own pages say it offers | Agent and MCP support, as stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Odds API | Odds feed | Odds as JSON in decimal or American format for moneyline, spreads, totals, outrights and some player props, plus scores and historical odds, across many sports and bookmakers. States a free starter plan with a monthly credit allowance. Access by API key. | None mentioned on its home page. |
| SportsDataIO | Data suite | Scores, injuries, lineups, depth charts, odds, projections, player news and historical data across many sports. States an API free trial. | None mentioned on its home page. |
| Sportradar | Data suite | A developer portal covering sports data and odds products by sport. | Publishes an MCP server that gives AI tools access to its API documentation, endpoint listings and schemas; its page says it returns documentation and does not make live API calls. An API key is required. |
| OpticOdds | Odds feed | Real-time odds, fixtures, player props, injuries, results and line history from sportsbooks. | Publishes an MCP integration so Claude can query its data in natural language, with tools for finding the best price and comparing lines. An API key is required. |
How they fit together with DeepChamp for Agents
DeepChamp for Agents does not compete on prices or statistics. It returns no odds, no price comparisons, no box scores and no vendor data, and no field exists for them. What it adds is the layer above the data: ranked and deduplicated news, matchup and prop briefs, probability estimates and edge scores with the reasons attached, and an agent called Jev that answers research questions from those same sources.
- If your agent needs prices, use a feed you are licensed to use. Send your own price to DeepChamp’s evaluate_market line when it is live, and get fair value, edge and expected value as arithmetic on your input.
- If your agent needs facts such as scores and schedules, use a data suite. Use DeepChamp for the context around those facts.
- If your agent needs to know what changed and why it matters before a game, use the news and intel lines, which are ranked and deduplicated for that purpose.
- Measure whichever signals you use against the closing line with your own feed. See the guide on measuring closing line value.
The free daily slate and matchup context are live now at https://deepchampai.com/api/agent/v1. The other product lines are specified in the published contract and are off in production until the licence, legal and payment checks they depend on clear.
How to choose
- 1Write down the one task your agent must do, in a sentence. “Alert me when a starter is ruled out and tell me why it matters” needs news and intelligence. “Compare prices on a prop” needs an odds feed.
- 2Pick the type that returns the facts that task needs, then check its licence for what you may store and show. See the evaluation guide for the eight checks.
- 3Prototype on a free tier or trial before you commit, and total the cost of a realistic day of calls, including retries.
- 4Add measurement from the first day: log what each source told your agent and what the market did.
Common questions
What is the best sports odds API for AI agents?
There is no single best one, because odds feeds differ in the sports, sportsbooks, history and licence terms they offer. Choose by the sports and markets your agent needs, read the licence for what you may store and display, prototype on a free plan or trial, and check whether the provider publishes an OpenAPI file or an MCP server.
What is the difference between a sports odds API and a sports intelligence API?
An odds API returns sportsbook prices and lines. An intelligence API returns derived analysis such as ranked news, research briefs, probability estimates and scores. DeepChamp for Agents is an intelligence API: it returns no odds, so it is used beside an odds feed rather than instead of one.
Do sports data providers offer MCP servers?
Some do. As of October 30, 2026, Sportradar describes an MCP server for its API documentation and OpticOdds describes an MCP integration for querying its odds data, and both require an API key. DeepChamp for Agents offers a remote MCP server for its free daily slate and matchup context.
Can I use DeepChamp for Agents instead of an odds feed?
No. DeepChamp for Agents never returns odds, prices or line history. It supplies research context, rankings and estimates that sit on top of a data feed, and its evaluate_market line, when live, does arithmetic on a price you supply from your own feed.
